KPA set for KBF final after being declared Game 5 winner in protracted battle with Equity Dumas

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will finally have a chance of playing in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s league final match after the team was awarded a Game 5 victory in their playoff tie against Equity Dumas.
After a long protracted battle between the two sides, the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) ruled in favour of the coastal based outfit following a hearing conducted between the two parties.
In the hotly contested playoff tie, Dumas had won the first two games in Nairobi and needed only one win to seal a maiden final berth. KPA, however, overturned the result levelling the series at 2-2 heading into the deciding playoff match.
Drama then ensued in Game 5 when Dumas walked off the court with 59 seconds left on the clock and the score reading 66-54 in favour of the home team. Dumas, through their team manager Zadock Adika, citing they feared for their safety due to fan interference as the reason for their walking out.
Initially, the game was set to be replayed following a ruling made but KPA appealed the decision.
In the verdict of the appeal, Mozzart Sport can reveal that KPA have been awarded victory following deliberations on the matter with KBF’s secretary general Anthony Kisoi confirming the verdict to the two teams.
“Reference to the above-mentioned for MP/SF/G5/093 played in Makande, Mombasa. Following the deliberations of the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee, the Federation hereby informs you that the verdict is out and KPA has been declared the winner of the game,”

A lot going in the basketball scene in Kenya, the Kenya Basketball Federation is doing little to solve the pending issues, apparently the NEC has called an urgent meeting.

With the ruling, KPA will now face Ulinzi Warriors in the final at a date yet to be revealed.
Ulinzi had their fair share of drama after qualifying as their legality was questioned from the beginning of the playoffs with some quarters arguing that Valentine Nyakinda was ineligible to feature for the soldiers.
